Bboom Bboom 2 confirmed

Source: Official Kmusic
The Philippines might have another LSS and dance covers to make, and another undivided attention to Nancy as Momoland returns with their latest mini-album Fun to the World, with the carrier single "Baam".

I say that their image is upgrading. It has already matured in Great! This time around they are leveling it up. We are brought to an international concept in "Baam", and this is what might surprise us. I simply say that this concept in the MV might be showing how the group is beginning to try to earn global fans, that if we mean the 9 artists as a whole. But guess a country that is featured in the MV, and who carries its flag.

Love it, nonetheless.

From Bboom to Baam
The music might be in some ways similar to their hit "Bboom Bboom". One feature where the two songs are similar is the structure, which includes another synth brass hook as well as another rap part nailed by Daisy, and pre-choruses well-delivered by Jane, who has stood out in the MV, and Taeha, who I find must be given more screen time in future endeavors. Nonetheless, both have gained higher screen times in "Baam" compared to their previous hit. The dance as well makes them move like bells in the chorus. Nevertheless, I love how they do some shuffling as well on that part (remember "Party Rock Anthem"?). And again they took advantage of trends, this time the "Shoot Dance" and "Dame Tu Cosita".

If there's one thing worth noticing here, it's not really the "find the hidden jewel" game (I cannot find it yet). It is how the other members have been more highlighted in this performance. Yeonwoo gains much screen time, taking over refrains. There's something in what she did at "Bboom Bboom" which was translated in "Baam". In fairness, I find it more comfortable to look at.

Jane, meanwhile, stands out more. For me she's the one leveling up in this new release. In their promotional material for the album I find her stunning. That further sinks in here in "Baam". I'm afraid another bias breaker is occurring.

New album, new challenges
Along with "Baam" is another 4-track release entitled Fun To The World. A good listen, although it seems it has not much challenged what Great! provided. Nonetheless, "Very Very" is my pick on this album. It could have been the single which could have further built an upgraded comeback. Or at least it could be a follow-up to "Baam" (I hoped the same for "Fly" after "Bboom", too bad it was just wishful thinking).

"Only One You" is a fine mid-tempo (?) addition, but I still miss their mellow side, as shown by their first two albums. They really do great singing ballads, especially with Jane and Taeha pulling off good vocals. I hope they could go back to that easy listening side in their future songs.

As much as they returned, controversies have also come back challenging the 9-member girl group. Add to that Nayun's break from performing after it was found that she has "vestibular disorder". The trail the group is going is apparently one that must be overcome with effort. Amidst these challenges, the group remains promising as they continue to work hard promoting the new release. I look forward to future content that will amaze their fans more than "Baam", as well as withstand haters.

Adrian's Mid-Year Melodies: 2024

Last year, before we welcomed the present year, I recalled 2023 in ten songs (and some more), which I labelled "My Tracks of the Year," after a well-known BBC Radio 2 fixture in weekday mornings. And now that we have gone fairly midway through 2024, I want to share this time the songs I've enjoyed in the past months, most of which have been soundtracking all that I've been through: the small wins, the crushing setbacks, the weight of work being alleviated by music, the roller-coaster of feelings being diagnosed by lyrics. I call this my "Mid-Year Melodies." On the Spotify / YouTube playlist there are 40 songs, but for this blog I'll highlight ten songs, with some special mentions.  Let's get right into it. 1. The Lovers - Alexander O' Neal (1987) After appreciating RnB/soul artist Alexander O'Neal with his classic "Criticize" during Christmas season, in January I've loved his album Hearsay , with its cool narrative of a party w...

Adrian's Tracks of The Year 2024: The Year of Thinking and Rediscovering

In the adulting years, I realized, the Christmas and yearend season can get stressful and draining with the blended rush of remaining work, multiple parties, and numerous bouts of shopping and other errands (It's even hard to sneak in writing this piece). Nonetheless, what still gets me excited at this time is the chance to revisit the songs I discovered and enjoyed throughout the year, especially through Spotify Wrapped. More than the songs, I also like to reflect on the moments and thoughts soundtracked by these songs. This led me to a resolve to come up with a playlist of the songs that marked the year, which I call "My Tracks of the Year."  From my inaugural 60 or so tracks playlist last year, I've picked 100 this time. Many of these songs are new releases this year and new discoveries, yet highlights from this year also come from tracks I once heard in the past years but now have deeper meanings to me as they chronicle my musings in the past months.  It's dif...

Retro in the Metro

After my graduation, at around 11 pm, before going to sleep, I turned the radio on and tuned in to 105.9, which in the previous days aired teasers about a new format on the station: "Prepare to go Retro". I expected to still hear jazzy tunes from the soon-to-go-out Radio High, when I found out that the music finally changed to classic sounds of the past, ranging from around 70s to 80s. Then, as I wrote on a notebook, I heard a jingle, which sounded like the ones from RJ 100 and 99.5 RT (before it became Play FM), something created by Jam Creative (famous makers of radio jingles). The station has gone retro . I was sure  earthings! blog will keep track on this, and so the next day I confirmed to myself that 105.9 is now Retro 105.9 DCG-FM, and as of this writing (last Friday), I still don't know what DCG means. I thought, Why not WLA-FM? That sounds better... Nonetheless, 105.9 and FM radio as a whole now sounds better, despite of the popularity of Hot AC/"masa"...
